Surface to be tiled should be sound free from loose laitance, paint, oil, grease, mouldrelease agent and residual curing compound. The surface must be dimensionally stable. Tiles should be dry and free from contaminants. Timber, gypsum surfaces should be primed with proper bonding aid and adhesive applied wet to wet with the primer
Add CHEMFIX 501 bag to 4.0 liters of clean water and mix to a uniform lump free consistency and allow standing for 5 minutes before use. Mix using slow speed drill and mixing paddle.
Apply CHEMFIX 501 to a uniform thickness of 3 mm to 6 mm or enough to cover the studs or troughs on the tile back. Apply adhesive to the working area for max 1.0 m2 at a time. For heavy duty applications, the adhesive can be buttered on the back of tiles to ensure full contact. For all other applications, the adhesive bed shall be combed horizontally with notched end trowel to remove excess.
Tiles should be dry and fixed by pressing into place with slight twisting motion, ensuring the tile back achieves full contact with the adhesive.
For joints around tiles, refer to manufacturer for joint width around tiles. Usually, ceramic tiles should not be butt joined. Remove excess adhesive from joints and face of tile with damp sponge or cloth before it sets. Joints should be raked out for grouting.
Leave for a minimum of 24 hours before grouting.
Chemfix has a wide variety of colors for grouting depending on joint size.
Special notes
CHEMFIX 501 should not be used on metal painted surfaces. Movement joints should be provided in accordance with normal practice. Gypsum plaster surfaces need primer treatment prior to application.
